Heavy Protest in Udu as govt. touts destroy seized tricycle (Video)

…..By Oghenekaro Gabriel

There was heavy protest in Udu road, Udu Local Government area of Delta State, as touts working for the Udu local government council to enforce ticket sales to commercial tricycle operators, also known as keke riders, destroyed one of the seized tricycle from an alleged defaulter.

The angry keke riders who blocked the ever busy Udu road, said they were fed up with what they described as illegal activities of Udu Local Government keke taskforce.

Advocate.ng gathered that trouble started when some taskforce members seized a new keke, bought less than a week ago, from a Keke rider because he allegedly failed to purchase ticket.

It was learnt that attempts to explain to the taskforce men that he had not started commercial operation with his tricycle because he still needed to fix certain things in it, fell on deaf ears, as the men of the taskforce forcefully took over his tricycle.

According to eyewitness source, “they took over the steering and speed off with the keke, the next thing we saw was that they were involved in an accident that damaged the new keke beyond repairs.”

This, according to our source, sparked protest by keke riders who blocked the ever busy Udu road and chased the touts.

It took the intervention of the Udu Local Government Chairman, Chief Jite Brown to calm the situation, as he promised to buy a new tricycle to replace the damaged one. It was at this point that the protesting Keke riders agreed to open the road for free flow of traffic.
