Reno Omokri Criticizes Peter Obi’s Stance on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

Reno Omokri, a prominent Nigerian political commentator, has recently criticized Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, for his opposition to the Federal Government’s plan to build the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Omokri argued that Obi’s stance is hypocritical, citing his own record as Governor of Anambra, where he invested in a $30 million beer brewery, despite the presence of numerous uncompleted projects in the state.
In his criticism, Omokri pointed out that during Obi’s tenure, Anambra became the “erosion headquarters of the entire world,” and the state suffered from perennial flooding that caused loss of life and property.
Despite these challenges, Obi did not complete the erosion and flood control projects initiated by his predecessors.
Omokri compared the situation in Anambra to Lagos, where Tinubu and Fashola tackled the problem of flooding by reclaiming land from the Atlantic Ocean and building a new city, Eko Atlantic City.
He suggested that Obi’s focus on the beer brewery in the face of pressing environmental issues in his state was misplaced.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a proposed project by the Federal Government aimed at connecting the coastal states of Lagos, Ondo, Delta, and Cross River.
The project is expected to improve transportation and economic development in the region.
However, Obi has argued that the government should prioritize the completion of existing projects across the country instead.
Omokri’s criticism of Obi has sparked debate among Nigerians, with some agreeing with his assessment of Obi’s tenure as Governor of Anambra and his stance on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, while others have defended Obi’s record and criticized Omokri for his comments.
The controversy highlights the ongoing debate in Nigeria over the allocation of resources and the prioritization of infrastructure projects by the government.
As the country continues to grapple with various challenges, including environmental issues and economic development, the debate over the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is likely to continue, with various stakeholders offering their opinions on the best way forward.
