Betty Akeredolu Accused of Abandoning Aide After Seven Years of Service: A Heartbreaking Tale

A former aide to Ondo State’s immediate past First Lady, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, has come forward with allegations of abandonment after serving the late Governor Rotimi Akerdolu’s wife for seven years without any form of reward.
Folasade Adu, the ex-aide, has voiced her grievances in an interview, shedding light on what she claims to be a painful ordeal that left her and her family in dire financial straits.
In the interview, which took place on April 22, 2024, with Ondo-based journalist Prince Olujimi Adekale, Folasade Adu detailed the circumstances surrounding her employment and eventual departure from Mrs. Akeredolu’s service.
According to her, she was employed as Mrs. Akeredolu’s makeup artist and hair stylist, a position she held for over seven years.
Despite her dedication to the job, she alleges that she was paid a salary of N50,000 per month, out of which N5,100 was deducted monthly for seven years.
Adu further explained that the deductions were at the behest of Mrs. Akeredolu, who directed that 10% of her salary be given back to BRECAN (Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria).
BRECAN, founded by Mrs. Akeredolu, is a non-profit organization that aims to combat breast cancer in Nigeria through education, patient support, advocacy, and research.
The emotional interview revealed the extent of the hardship faced by Adu and her family following her departure from the First Lady’s service.
After the death and burial of her husband, the late Governor Rotimi Akerdolu, Mrs. Akeredolu allegedly refused to offer any form of reward or assistance to her former aide, despite her years of service.
Adu, who broke down in tears during the interview, also disclosed that she and her husband had to sell their taxi, which had been used during the Akeredolu’s second-term campaign, for a meager N100,000 after it became unroadworthy.
This unfortunate situation has left her husband unemployed and the family in a state of financial distress.
In her appeal for help, Adu has called on the people of Ondo State and the wider Nigerian community to assist her in reopening her shop.
She expressed her deep pain and frustration at the current situation, stating that she has been left with nothing after years of service to the First Lady.
As the story unfolds, it raises questions about the treatment of staff members within Nigeria’s political circles and the responsibilities of those in positions of power towards their employees.
The allegations against Mrs. Betty Akeredolu have sparked discussions on social media and in political circles, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
As of now, Mrs. Akeredolu has not responded to the allegations made by Folasade Adu.
The story serves as a reminder of the importance of fair treatment and support for employees, especially those who have dedicated years of service to their employers.
