The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) has announced that local government elections will take place on July 20, 2024, marking a significant event for the state’s political landscape.
The elections will encompass 13 local government areas and 171 political wards, offering an opportunity for political parties to participate and elect competent grassroots leaders to address their communities’ challenges.
During a recent meeting with political party representatives and security agencies, Barrister Josy Eze, Chairman of EBSIEC, highlighted the importance of active participation in the electoral process.
He encouraged political parties to collect their nomination forms from the commission’s headquarters in Abakaliki, the state capital.
“Under the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission Law, and the Ebonyi State Electoral and Related Matters Law, the Ebonyi state independent electoral commission hereby publish and give notice of local government council elections in Ebonyi State 2024,” said Barrister Josy Eze.
The elections will be held on July 20, 2024, across the state, with nomination papers to be submitted at the commission’s headquarters.
This announcement has been published in each of the 13 local government areas and 171 electoral wards, signifying the widespread anticipation of the upcoming elections.
As the tenure of the EBSIEC Chairman is set to expire on July 31, 2024, the commission is making preparations to ensure a smooth transition and the successful conduct of the elections.
Local government chairmen and ward councillors have expressed concerns, but the announcement has been met with satisfaction among the state’s residents, who are eager to participate in the democratic process.
The upcoming local government elections in Ebonyi State are a crucial opportunity for political parties and citizens to engage in the selection of competent leaders who will address the needs of their communities.
As the state prepares for this significant event, the EBSIEC remains committed to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process that upholds democratic values.
