The Ogun State publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador ‘Tunde Oladunjoye, has threatened to take legal action against the party’s leader in Itele Ward 7, Hon. Deko Onamusi, for allegedly defaming him.
Oladunjoye has demanded an apology and N100 million in compensation for the false and misleading information that was published about him.
In a letter dated April 20, 2024, Oladunjoye’s counsel, Taofik Oladele Lawal Esq., called for a retraction of the said publication within a 72-hour ultimatum.
The publication in question falsely claimed that Oladunjoye had been suspended from the party on grounds of causing polarization, abuse of office, and withholding election funds.
According to the letter, the allegations were described as “falsehood and far from the truth,” and the purported suspension was deemed libelous.
The publication was shared and forwarded on various social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and several blogs, causing significant harm to Oladunjoye’s reputation.
The letter also stated that a letter was written to the Ogun State Headquarters of the APC, which was orchestrated maliciously and unconstitutionally.
The legal counsel emphasized that the publication was both false and malicious, making it libelous in its ordinary and intended innuendos.
This incident highlights the growing issue of misinformation and defamation within political circles, particularly on social media platforms.
