DTSG charges railway routes communities on safety precautions after mother and daughter were crushed to death by moving train

Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana has charged communities hosting railway routs to take extra-precaution and safety measures to avoid deaths and other unpleasant situations.

Ganagana made the appeal during his visit to Ujevwu Railway Service Station Terminal of the Warri-Itiakpe rail line in Udu local government area of the state to ascertain the cause of the train accident that led to the death of a mother and her daughter on the 5th of August, 2021.

While expressing sadness over the incident, he noted that although the railway was controlled by the Federal government, Deltans still have a lot to benefit from it as it impacts her communities directly.

He stressed the need for proper media sensitization of Deltans on railway operations, and safety measures to forestall future re-occurrence of such negative incident.

The commissioner who noted that life was sacrosanct, charged members of communities with railway track routes transcending it to stay far from the tracks to avoid unexpected consequences, explaining that the train unlike vehicles have a programmed movement that cannot be easily maneuvered.

Those that accompanied the commissioner to the fact finding visit includes, the Permanent Secretary in the Directorate of Transport, Mrs Ngozi Nwanze, Special Assistant to the Commissioner, Mr Ebi Yinkore and other senior management staff in the ministry.
