The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has nullified the election of Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, and declared Nasir Gawuna, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the March 18, 2023 election.
However, Gawuna challenged the outcome of the election at the tribunal, alleging that there were irregularities and malpractices that affected the result.
The three-man panel of the tribunal, led by Justice Aminu Aliyu, agreed with Gawuna’s petition and deducted 165,663 votes from Yusuf’s total, leaving him with 1,945,857 votes.
The tribunal’s verdict has sparked mixed reactions from supporters of both parties. While APC supporters celebrated the victory of their candidate, NNPP supporters expressed shock and disappointment over the ruling.
