Police AIG Addresses Petition to Arrest Igbo Traders in Bayelsa’s Swali Market

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 16 headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Paul Omata, has taken action in response to the alleged petition to arrest Igbo traders in the Ultra-Modern Swali market.
The petition was reportedly written by the market mistress, Mrs. Mildred Egele, against the chairman and the entire Igbo traders in the market, alleging that they had protested against her.
In response to the situation, AIG Omata invited the leadership of the Igbo traders in Swali market to his office and ordered a stop to any further arrests of the traders.
He assured the traders that he would investigate the matter thoroughly and put an end to the issue.
Mr. Jude Osigwe, the chairman of the Igbo traders in Swali Ultra-Modern market, recounted his experience of being abducted by masked police officers from Zone 16 without a warrant of arrest or police uniform.
He explained that the situation escalated after a peaceful protest by the traders, which was prompted by a petition written by Mrs. Egele through the office of Trade and Investment.
Following the intervention of AIG Omata, both Mr. Osigwe and Mrs. Egele have been invited to discuss the issue with the AIG.
The aim is to understand the root of the problem and find a resolution to ensure peace and stability in the market.
The swift action taken by the AIG demonstrates the commitment to addressing issues within the community and maintaining a peaceful environment for all traders in the Swali market.
