Taraba State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Arrests Two Suspects for Human Trafficking

The Taraba State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully apprehended two individuals who were allegedly involved in human trafficking.

The suspects, Daniel Mading and Federation Markus, were arrested on January 18, 2024, at the Jalingo Main Motor Park while attempting to transport sixteen children to Benin, Edo State.

The victims, aged between 10 and 16, were rescued from Zing and Bali Local Government Areas of the state, where reports suggest that such inhumane practices are on the rise.

Preliminary investigations by the state commandant, Adamu Salihu, revealed that the arrested individuals are part of a larger syndicate specializing in trafficking underage children.

The suspects allegedly lured the victims with promises of a better future in Edo State, only to subject them to degrading menial jobs, confiscating the proceeds from their labor.

This incident sheds light on the alarming prevalence of human trafficking in Nigeria and the urgent need for stronger measures to combat this heinous crime.

The Taraba State Command of the NSCDC has demonstrated its commitment to protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice.

The suspects are currently in custody, and further investigations are being carried out to dismantle the larger trafficking network.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and collaboration among law enforcement agencies in the fight against human trafficking.

It is crucial for the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. Together, we can put an end to this modern-day slavery and ensure a safer and more just society for all.
