Rivers State Police Command Detains Officers for Alleged $3,000 Extortion

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested and detained some of its officers for allegedly extorting $3,000 from a Port Harcourt resident.

The incident came to light after a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the handle @harrisonbbi18 posted about the alleged extortion.

According to the X user, the police officers, who were attached to the Rivers State Police Command, left Port Harcourt for ABA, Abia State, where they arrested a man.

They then proceeded to take him to Rivers State, Bayelsa State, and eventually entered Ughelli, Delta State. After paying 3,000 USD, the victim was reportedly moved back to Port Harcourt.

Following the X post, the Rivers State Police Command responded by confirming the arrest of the erring officers.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the personnel had been identified and detained while an investigation was ongoing.

The outcome of the investigation will be made public as soon as it is concluded.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of police misconduct and the need for increased accountability within law enforcement agencies.
