Dr Cosmos Ndukwe Resigns from PDP: A Shift in Abia State’s Political Landscape

Dr Cosmos Ndukwe, a prominent figure in Abia State politics and one of the 2023 presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from the party.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of his Item C Ward in Bende Local Government Area, and copied to the State Chairman of the PDP and the Acting National Chairman, Ndukwe cited “personal reasons, current commitments, and aspirations” as the reasons for his departure from the main opposition party.
Ndukwe expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it provided him during his tenure as a Councillor, Deputy Chairman of Local Government, Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, and a Presidential Aspirant in the 2023 elections.
He emphasized that his decision to resign was not taken lightly, and he remains committed to the principles of democracy and the progress of Abia State.
The resignation of Dr Cosmos Ndukwe adds to the growing list of high-profile exits from the PDP, including former Governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, and over 20 key members in Imo State.
This wave of resignations is believed to be a result of the internal crisis within the PDP, particularly the ongoing supremacy battle between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike.
There are speculations that Ndukwe’s resignation may pave the way for his joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to support his kinsman, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.
This potential move highlights the shifting political landscape in Abia State and could have significant implications for the state’s political dynamics moving forward.
In his letter, Ndukwe expressed appreciation for the support and camaraderie he received from fellow members of the PDP and wished the party continued success in its endeavors.
Despite his resignation, he remains committed to the principles of democracy and the progress of his state.
The resignation of Dr Cosmos Ndukwe from the PDP marks a significant event in Abia State’s political scene, with potential repercussions for the party’s influence and the state’s political landscape as a whole.
