Nigeria's ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has broken his silence on why he hasn't yet taken up his posting. Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today on Monday, Omokri explained that timing, not rejection, is the real issue.

Mexico is currently co-hosting the FIFA World Cup with the United States. According to Omokri, this has consumed the attention of Mexican officials completely.

"Mexico has not rejected me. Not at all," he told the interviewer firmly.

He stressed that such claims are coming from political opponents trying to damage his reputation.

Omokri noted that he isn't alone in this situation. Many other ambassadors appointed to various countries haven't resumed duties yet, he said.

"Most of us ambassadors have not resumed," Omokri added during the interview. "I'm not the only one.

A lot of my colleagues are in my situation, but it's okay."

He dismissed suggestions from the opposition that Mexico has rejected him as baseless. In his view, these are just political attacks without factual foundation.

"The opposition will always say things like I have been rejected," he noted. "The reality is that countries around the world respect Nigeria and will receive our envoys."
