Ecuador has become the seventh nation to bow out of the World Cup Round of 32 stage after losing 2-0 to co-hosts Mexico. Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez each scored to send the Mexicans through to the next round.
France had earlier advanced by thrashing Sweden 3-0. Kylian Mbappe bagged a brace while Bradley Barcola added the third as the French secured their spot in the Round of 16.
The exits of Ecuador and Sweden mean seven countries have now departed the tournament. Ivory Coast, Japan, Germany, South Africa and the Netherlands had already been eliminated before today's matches.
