Works minister David Umahi says President Bola Tinubu is leveraging road building schemes to counter insecurity across Nigeria. He explained that the administration is deploying strategic highway projects to strengthen military capabilities in troubled regions.

Umahi made the remarks during the launch of construction work on the Maiduguri-Dikwa-Gamboru route at Muna City Gate over the weekend. According to him, the roads will reconnect fractured communities, stimulate trade, and bolster security force operations in the North-east.

The minister stressed that the initiative enables troops to access border zones more efficiently and improves supply chains for armed personnel. "These road infrastructure projects are part of President Tinubu's bigger plan to tackle insecurity," Umahi said.

He highlighted the cross-border dimension of the work. "When these projects are done, the people in the North-east will benefit because they connect to Chad and Cameroon," he told those present.

Umahi emphasised the military dimension of the undertaking. "But the bigger point is that our military will have roads to fight against whatever remains of the insurgency," the minister added.

The North-east has endured years of Boko Haram violence and related instability. The administration believes improved road networks will give security agencies tactical advantages in pursuit operations and troop deployments.

The projects form part of Tinubu's infrastructure agenda announced since taking office in May 2023. Officials have repeatedly linked infrastructure development to broader security and economic objectives.
