Nigerian Military Urges Government to Fix Critical Roads for Enhanced Security

The Nigerian military has appealed to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to prioritize the repair and maintenance of critical roads within the country.

This appeal was made by Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa during a visit to the minister in Abuja, emphasizing the critical need for roadworks in the North-east region of the country.

Gen. Musa highlighted the importance of a well-maintained road network in facilitating effective military operations.

He pointed out that poor road conditions can severely hamper military personnel and equipment movement, making them more vulnerable to enemy attacks.

This concern is particularly pertinent in areas such as Maiduguri, where bandits are exploiting the poor condition of roads to undermine security operations.

The military has requested immediate intervention to address the deplorable condition of roads in the North-east.

The appeal comes in the wake of increasing casualties among military personnel and equipment, especially in areas where bandits are using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to target security forces.

Minister Umahi, in response, assured the military delegation that his ministry would work closely with the military to identify and prioritize the routes most critical to defense operations.

He praised the military’s efforts and sacrifices in securing the nation and expressed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary support for the military’s endeavors.

Furthermore, Umahi assured the military that President Bola Tinubu would give the matter due attention to enhance national defense and security.

The minister acknowledged the challenges in the road sector and promised to analyze the situation and take it to the President for accelerated action.

This development underscores the critical linkage between road infrastructure and national security.

A robust road network not only facilitates the movement of military personnel and equipment but also plays a significant role in economic development and the overall well-being of the nation.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with security challenges, the government’s response to this appeal will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of future security operations.
