My electoral victory in Delta Central was personal -Okowa …Urhobo‘ll not produce guber candidate in 2019 Utuama assures Okowa

The Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has described his victory in the April 11 2015 governorship election in some part of Delta Central Senatorial District, as his personal effort, nothing that the rivalry amongst PDP leaders and major stakeholders would have cost the party victory, but for his personal effort in reaching out to the people.Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa being welcome by Delta Central PDP leaders

Okowa stated this during the People Democratic Party, PDP Delta Central Senatorial District, victory reception held yesterday at Oghara-Township stadium, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area, according to him, “ my victory in the election in Delta Central was personal, however my first major appointment went to an Urhobo, which is the Secretary to the State Government, SSG.”

While emphasizing the need for the party leaders and stakeholders to be united ahead of 2019 election, the Governor added that he and some leaders of the party in the state are working very hard to re-position the party in Delta State, considering the fact that the PDP is now the opposition party at the center.

He therefore, urged party leaders to work in unity in the build up to the up coming congresses, stressing that the era where only one leader will nominate all the delegate for congress election is over, stating that all party leaders should be concern and limit their influence to their wards, while consulting other stakeholders’ in the LGA.

Meantime, the former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN while speaking assured Governor Okowa that come 2019; the Urhobo nation will not produce a governorship candidate to challenge the present governor, adding that the Urhobo people are happy so far with the Okowa and would want him to complete his 8 years tenure.

Utuama stated further, that with the level of Urhobo participation in Okowa’s government and the developmental projects so far brought to the Delta Central Senatorial District, the Urhobo people will continue to support him and the PDP come 2019, because the Urhobos have no other party than the PDP.

However, the PDP chairman in Delta Central Senatorial District, Sir Tom Amioku, stated that the victory of the party in the 2015 election in Delta Central was as a result of all inclusive leadership style that the party leadership introduced which ensure that every critical stakeholder are carried along in decision making process thereby forging stronger bound.

He stated further that the PDP enjoys huge followership across Delta state, according to him which makes the party “ most formidable political party in the state,” adding that the massive crowed at Oghara on Friday to receive governor was a testimony to the popularity of the party in the state.
