Uruguayan football legend Luis Suarez made his low-key debut for Inter Miami in a friendly match against El Salvador on January 19, 2024.
The match, held at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador, ended in a goalless draw.
Suarez, who recently joined Inter Miami from Brazilian club Gremio, started in attack alongside former Barcelona teammate and Argentine superstar Lionel Messi.
However, the 36-year-old struggled to find his footing in his first game for the Florida franchise.
The match also featured fellow former Barcelona players Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who were all substituted at half-time with the match scoreless.
Messi came closest to opening the scoring on 36 minutes, but his efforts were denied by El Salvador goalkeeper Mario Martinez.
Despite the lackluster performance from the star-studded Miami team, the match was a valuable opportunity for the players to gain match fitness and for the coaching staff to assess their squad ahead of the new season.
The friendly against El Salvador was the first of several pre-season games for Inter Miami, as they prepare for their Major League Soccer campaign.
The team will be hoping to improve on their previous season’s performance and challenge for the league title in 2024.
