Enugu Commences Physical Verification of Local Government Staff to Eliminate Ghost Workers

The Enugu State Government has initiated a comprehensive physical verification exercise for all Local Government staff members.

This move is aimed at identifying and eliminating ghost workers from the system, thereby streamlining the administration and improving the overall efficiency of the Local Government system.

The verification process, which began on January 11, 2024, and is scheduled to end on January 18, 2024, requires all serving staff in the State Local Government system to complete an Online Verification Form with their details.

The state government has set up a dedicated website for this purpose, and staff members are required to obtain their Verification Number from their respective Local Government Payroll Officers to access the form.

This initiative comes at a time when the issue of ghost workers has plagued the Nigerian Public Service, resulting in bloated salary budgets and the misappropriation of funds.

By conducting a thorough verification process, the Enugu State Government is taking a proactive step towards ensuring that only genuine employees are on the payroll, thereby saving the state significant amounts of money and optimizing its workforce.

The verification exercise has been met with a positive response from the public, with many expressing their support for the government’s efforts to combat corruption and improve the efficiency of the Local Government system.

The state government has also assured the public that it will continue to take necessary measures to ensure transparency and accountability in its administration.

In conclusion, the physical verification of Local Government staff in Enugu State marks a significant step towards eliminating ghost workers and improving the overall functioning of the Local Government system.

It is a testament to the government’s commitment to good governance and its determination to create a more efficient and transparent public service.
