Judge orders lawyer to produce Naira Marley in court over alleged fraud

A Federal High Court judge in Lagos has ordered the lawyer of Afrobeats star Naira Marley to produce him in court for trial over alleged fraud.

Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, is facing 11 charges of conspiracy and credit card fraud brought by the EFCC. He did not show up in court on Friday, and his lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, said he was detained by the police over the death of MohBad. MohBad was a former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Records who died under unclear circumstances last month after a dispute with him.

The prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, asked the judge to issue a production warrant for Naira Marley to ensure his attendance in court on the next date. Justice Nicholas Oweibo agreed and adjourned the trial until October 30, 2023.
