Police arrest nurse and friend, hunt for music promoter over Mohbad’s death

The Lagos State Police Command has named three persons as the principal suspects in the death of Afrobeats star Mohbad, who died on September 12, 2023, after being treated for an ear infection by an unlicensed nurse.

The suspects are Oluwaseun Oluwafemi, aka Primeboy, who is a friend of the late singer; Oluwakemi Odugbesan, the nurse who administered three injections to Mohbad; and Samson Balogun, aka Sam Larry, a music promoter who had a feud with Mohbad.

According to the police, Primeboy was the one who contacted Odugbesan to treat Mohbad at his residence in Lekki, Lagos. Odugbesan claimed she gave Mohbad two injections of Tetanus Toxoid and one injection of Diclofenac Sodium, which she said were prescribed by a doctor.

However, the police said the autopsy report revealed that Mohbad died of anaphylactic shock, a severe allergic reaction that can be triggered by drugs or other substances. The police also said Odugbesan was not a registered nurse and had no licence to practice nursing.

The police also said Balogun was a person of interest in the case, as he had a history of animosity with Mohbad. Balogun was accused by Mohbad of leading a group of armed men to disrupt his video shoot in June 2023. Balogun denied the allegation and said he had nothing to do with Mohbad’s death.

The police said they have arrested Odugbesan and Primeboy and are interrogating them to unravel the circumstances that led to Mohbad’s death. They said they are also looking for Balogun, who is currently at large.

The police urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist them in their investigation. They also appealed to Mohbad’s fans to remain calm and avoid any form of violence or protest.
