Governor Otti Highlights Job Creation as Key to Economic Growth in South East Region

In a meeting with the Joint Body of South East Council of Traditional Rulers and representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State emphasized the importance of government intervention in stimulating economic growth through increased job creation in the South East geopolitical zone.

According to Governor Otti, it is crucial for South-East governors to make deliberate decisions aimed at safeguarding the economy through job creation initiatives.

He highlighted the need to create a conducive environment that will attract investments and bring businesses back to the region, which is an efficient strategy for boosting socio-economic growth.

The Governor also acknowledged that investment businesses are rational and that if the environment is not conducive, they will not come.

He mentioned that at least 20 to 25 businesses in Abia had closed shops due to unfavorable conditions, emphasizing the need for the government to step in and make decisions to safeguard the economy by creating jobs.

To achieve this, Governor Otti has evolved initiatives aimed at revitalizing key economic hubs like Aba and Umuahia, to attract investments and spur development.

He also promised to continually engage with the Joint Body of South East Council of Traditional Rulers and representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops, taking into account their concerns as part of the efforts to promote unity, development, and prosperity in the region.

One of the key factors in boosting economic growth is the regular power supply, which Governor Otti believes is a major enabler required for developing Aba and the entire region.

The 141 Megawatt Geometric Power Plant in Aba, which will be commissioned on Monday, will provide an uninterrupted power supply to the city and its environs.

The South East Governors Forum is also working collectively to address regional challenges, to foster development and economic revitalisation in the zone.

The main objective of the Joint Body of South East Council of Traditional Rulers and representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops is to promote peacebuilding and reconciliation in the South East.

Governor Alex Otti’s emphasis on job creation and government intervention in stimulating economic growth highlights the importance of creating a conducive environment for investments, businesses, and entrepreneurship in the South East region.

With the joint efforts of the South East Governors Forum, the Joint Body of South East Council of Traditional Rulers, and the representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops, the region is poised to become an economic hub, attracting investments and fostering development and prosperity for the “Ndigbo.”
