Security Operatives Thwart Hoodlums’ Attempt to Loot Jos Market

Security operatives including soldiers, police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Crops (NSCDC) successfully intercepted an attempt by hoodlums to break into the popular Yankalli Market in Plateau State.

The market is one of the major commodity markets in the state, and the hoodlums were reportedly aiming to steal food and other essential commodities.

The incident occurred on Friday around 8:00 pm, but security forces were able to prevent the attack due to prior intelligence and swift action.

The market traders had earlier reported the rumors of an impending attack to the security agencies, prompting them to deploy additional personnel to the market.

Alhaji Jamilu Kabiru, the chairman of a traders’ association, confirmed the incident and emphasized that the traders were not responsible for the rising inflation and price increases.

He explained that the cost of goods is determined by factors such as the cost of purchasing from companies and the high transportation fees associated with hiring trucks to transport the goods to their destination.

The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, confirmed the successful suppression of the attempted looting and credited the operation’s success to the cooperation of market traders and the swift intervention of the security forces.

This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation between market traders and security agencies in preventing criminal activities and maintaining the safety and stability of markets in Nigeria.

It also serves as a reminder to the public that the rising prices of goods are often a result of external factors, and not necessarily the fault of the traders themselves.
