The event, organized by the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, in conjunction with the Students’ Representative Council of the University of Ibadan, was attended by notable dignitaries including the Minister of State for Youth, Ayodele Olawande, and a former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, who was represented.
Governor Makinde highlighted the importance of youth involvement in governance, stating that Nigerian youth must become more actively involved in political processes.
He emphasized that leadership is a crucial aspect of preparing the youth for the future and their role in governance.
Makinde also shared his personal story, noting that his father was a ‘nobody,’ yet the people of Oyo State still elected him to lead.

The governor also stressed the importance of young people starting their own businesses, rather than seeking employment, as a way to harness their energy and potential.
He pointed out that Nigeria has had young leaders in the past, citing General Yakubu Gowon and former President Obasanjo as examples of leaders who held significant positions at young ages.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s declaration at the Students’ Legislative Summit marks a significant milestone in the political landscape of Oyo State.
It highlights the importance of youth involvement in governance and the need for young people to dream big and actively pursue leadership roles.
