“FG Halts Cooking Gas Export to Combat Scarcity and Rising Prices”

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the suspension of cooking gas, or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), export in an effort to address the scarcity and rapidly increasing prices of the commodity.

This decision comes as a response to the growing concerns of Nigerian citizens, who have been facing challenges in obtaining cooking gas at affordable prices.

The move is expected to increase the domestic supply of cooking gas, as all locally produced LPG will now be directed towards the Nigerian market.

This measure aims to stabilize the price of cooking gas and make it more accessible to the general public.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, made the announcement during an “Internal Stakeholders’ Workshop” held in Abuja.

He stated that the government is actively engaging with key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and major producers like Mobil, Chevron, and Shell, to address the challenges faced by consumers.

The suspension of cooking gas export is a significant step in the right direction, as it demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability and affordability of essential commodities for its citizens.

This decision is also expected to have a positive impact on the environment, as it will encourage the use of cleaner cooking fuels and reduce deforestation caused by the use of firewood.

As the government continues to work towards stabilizing the cooking gas market, it is essential for the public to remain informed and updated on the latest developments in this area.

By staying informed, citizens can make better decisions regarding their energy consumption and contribute to a more sustainable future for Nigeria.
