The former Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed, has spent a second night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The anti-graft agency is currently grilling him over alleged N10bn misappropriation during his tenure as governor.
The case has taken a new twist as the EFCC reportedly changed the conditions for his release, initially asking for federal directors as sureties and later demanding landed properties in Abuja.
The case was initially handled by the EFCC office in Abuja but was later transferred to Ilorin due to jurisdictional issues.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji AbdulWahab Oba, the visit to the EFCC was described as “procedural and routine.
” However, the extended stay and changing conditions have put the former governor’s camp in a state of confusion.
As the investigation continues, concerns have been raised about the former governor’s access to medical care and his personal cook.
The unfolding events have sparked a debate on the handling of political corruption cases and the rights of individuals under investigation.
This latest development in the N10bn misappropriation case involving the former Kwara State Governor, Ahmed, has further drawn attention to the need for transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The outcome of this case may set a precedent for future investigations into political corruption in the country.
