A 20-story hotel building under construction in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State, collapsed on Thursday evening, leaving eight people injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. while workers were engaged in construction work. They said they heard a loud sound and saw the building crumble to the ground.
The State Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Mr. Michael Anoka, who visited the scene of the incident, said the cause of the collapse was a building defect.
He also said there were no casualties and that the injured workers had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
