Tinubu Contemplates Cabinet Shakeup Ahead of First Anniversary in Office

President Bola Tinubu is reportedly considering a cabinet shakeup, with indications suggesting that some ministers may be sacked and replaced before the first anniversary of his administration on May 29, 2023.
During a ministerial retreat last November, President Tinubu hinted at periodic performance evaluations of his cabinet members and emphasized that non-performing officials would be removed.
A team of about 140 officials, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Mrs. Hadiza Bala Usman, has been evaluating the performance of various federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
The impending shakeup may also be used as an opportunity to review the appointment of ministers facing issues with integrity agencies.
However, former Governor of Benue State and Senator Gabriel Suswam has criticized the current Nigerian leadership, stating that President Tinubu’s administration lacks the capacity to address the economic challenges inherited from the previous government.
Suswam’s comments come in response to recent policies initiated by the Tinubu government, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, floating of the naira, and increased electricity tariffs, which he believes will worsen the situation for the Nigerian masses.
As President Tinubu prepares for his first anniversary in office, the potential cabinet shakeup is seen as a step towards addressing the criticisms and ensuring a more effective administration.
The move also reflects the President’s commitment to holding his cabinet members accountable for their performance and implementing necessary changes to achieve the administration’s goals.
