Chaos in Zamfara: Bandits Kill Four, Abduct 40 in Kasuwa-Daji Attack

At least four people, including two policemen, were killed and around 40 others abducted by armed bandits in an attack on Kasuwa-Daji Town under the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area in Zamfara State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, as the bandits entered the town with sophisticated weapons, including an anti-aircraft gun.

Residents reported that the bandits began shooting indiscriminately to scare the inhabitants of Kasuwa-Daji.

A resident of Kaura-Namoda town, Abubakar Kaura, informed Channels Television that the bandits also attacked the home of the former State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Hamisu Kasuwar-Daji, and abducted one of his wives and grandchildren.

According to Kaura, the house of the former NURTW chief is close to a police station in the town, and the bandits attacked the station, disarmed the policemen on duty, and killed two.

Another resident of Kasuwa-Daji, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, confirmed that two residents were also killed during the attack and that around 40 people were abducted during the house-to-house raid.

The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the attack to Channels Television but did not provide the exact number of people abducted.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police had deployed additional troops to restore normalcy in the town.

Zamfara state is one of the many states in the region that have been facing the wrath of criminals known as bandits, who raid and loot villages, kill residents, and burn houses to the ground.

The gangs maintain camps in a vast forest that spans Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states, and have carried out mass kidnappings of students from schools in recent years.

As the security situation in the region remains precarious, the Nigerian government has been urged to take decisive action against these armed bandits to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
