Be good ambassadors of Muslim faith, Osun REC urges Muslim students

By David Adeoye

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun, Dr Mutiu Agboke, has urged members of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) to always be good ambassadors of Muslim faith in the contemporary society.

Agboke made the plea on Sunday in a lecture with the theme: “Levelling Up” to mark the 1443A.H Jihad Week in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event organised by the MSSN, University of Ibadan (UI) branch, was held at the Islamic Centre, UI Central Mosque.

Theme of the lecture seeks to enlighten the students on the right way of levelling up their practices of the pristine faith of Islam in this present internet age without compromising prescriptions of the Islamic religion.

According to Agboke, to level up in Islam is to carry out an advancement in all aspects of human endeavours without contradicting the divine injunctions.

“It is, therefore, a conscious effort by a Muslim to improve oneself within the context of Islamic principles and not otherwise.

“Level up with Allah by being conscious and avoid social apostasy.

“Level up to be the best among humanity, respect humanity, regardless of the religious dichotomy and love for others what you love for yourself.

“Level up by advancing in your academic with good moral standard,” he said.

Agboke urged the Muslim students to abstain from vices and other activities that were opposed to by Islam which could make them to
become enemy of Allah than the beloved of Allah.

“Using religious and ethnic dichotomy to create unrest; throwing away the basic moral values; becoming a member of secret societies in desperation for wealth acquisition and drugs taking/peddling are contrary to Islamic injunctions,” he said.

Agboke added that ladies using their bodies to get whatever they want with indecent dressing and needless marriage contract and proliferation of wives at tender age were not in line with Islamic practices.

“Ladies should not sell their bodies to level up at any point, by using your Hijabs, you are already tagged, so your dignity should be intact till you graduate.

“Do not engage in marriage that will put you in perpetual bondage. Do not go for marriage when it is the job you need.

“Avoid anything that can break or destroy your marriage. The rate of divorce among young couple is alarming.

“Brothers should focus more on the welfare of the family than taking more ‘stars’.

“To use MSSN platform to level up, you must make the society attractive to others to join and be good examples in all ramifications.

“You will be endeared to others. So many of us today levelled up because MSSN gave us the veritable foundation to be able to do so,” he said.

The electoral officer urged the leadership of MSSN in UI to make the organisation encouraging to join.

In their seperate remarks, two Islamic scholars, Prof. Afeez Oladosu and Prof. Rasheed Aderinoye, described MSSN as a group of Muslim youths who desire the best, not only for themselves, but for the nation at large.

Oladosu said the event was to inbuild Muslim youths with necessary capacity they need and to remind them of their heritage, which is Islam.

Aderinoye, also said that MSSN was a training ground to mould characters, behaviours and to prepare Muslim youths for leadership role.
