Cleric tasks Tinubu to tackle corruption bedeviling county economy

By Angela James,

The Senior Pastor of the Banner of Solution Christian Assembly International Incorporated, Benin, Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Igiehon has appealed to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to do everything possible to eliminate corruption bedeviling all sectors of the economy of Nigeria.

Apostle Dr. Igiehon made this known while addressing pressmen in his church auditorium in Benin on 63 years of Nigeria’s independence.

Apostle Dr. Igiehon revealed that people are not moved to celebrate the anniversary of the independence of Nigeria because the hopes of those that agitated for the independence of Nigeria in 1960 has been dashed and left unrealized.

While pointing out that corruption and greed on the part of those in government as the cause of the nation’s economic downturn, Apostle Dr. Igiehon pointed out that no sector of the economy is free from corruption.

“What we see in Nigeria today does not capture the hopes of those that agitated and fought for the independence of Nigeria from colonial rule. This is not what Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe and others fought for. After 63 years of our existence we are still in colonial rule under greedy and corrupt leaders. At 63 it’s painful that Nigeria can not boast of quality education and health care. No good road. We all woke up this morning of independence to hear that a tanker conveying petroleum fell at Ologbo and so many people lost their lives in the inferno. The tanker fell as a result of bad roads. Graduates are on the streets, some have lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea searching for greener pastures abroad.

With all this numerous problems Nigerians cannot celebrate and if at 63 years Nigeria government has not been able to get it right, I wonder when it will”.

The Clergyman called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his good office to eradicate corruption and ensure accountability in the public service and other areas of the country’s economy and the freedom of the press.

” Government should wake up because they have a big role to play in putting Nigeria on the right track. I am hoping that the President of Nigeria will use his office to eradicate corruption and ensure accountability in all the sectors of the economy. The subsidy money should be judiciously spent to improve roads, build hospitals and create jobs. Ensure security of lives and property and it is when there is no job and nothing to do that people take to crime and criminality”.
