400MW Combined Power Cycle Expected in 18 months

There is strong hope that 400 MW will be added to the7000MW power generated by the Federal Government of Nigeria by September, 2019.

This was made known by the Managing Director of ONOSE TBEA Energy Ltd at the ground breaking ceremony of a 400MW combined Cycle Power Plant located at Ekrokpe/Ekrejegbe communities in Ughelli South LGA; Thursday, April 19, 2018.

 

 

With the Governor of the State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa leading others, the event was also witnessed by the Chairman of ONOSE TBEA, Gen Alexander Ogomudia (retd), and the project foreign partners from China and Turkey, host communities’ representatives, various stakeholders and government functionaries among others.

 

Chairman of the company, Gen Ogomudia in his speech said the company intends to contribute additional 2000MW to the generation capacity of 7000MW already attained by the Buhari administration beginning with 400MW.

He informed that ONOSE Nig Ltd went into partnership with TBEA Co. Ltd, a multinational electric power company with over 20 billion USD annual turn-over and a worldwide staff of over 60,000 people. The company he said, manufactures high quality electrical equipment including many of the transformers used in Nigeria.

 

 

According to him, in the partnership agreement, TBEA would design the plant, source the equipment, source the finance, build the plant and operate it as the Technical Partners in an equity participation arrangement with ONOSE Nig Ltd as the minority partner. ONOSE’s role was to secure the land, procure permits, approvals, licenses and the enabling environment to make the project happen and thus, the resulting company, ONOSE TBEA Energy Ltd was registered in 2017 after which enablers were gathered and hence, the ground breaking ceremony.

He expressed gratitude to the Hon Minister of Power, Works and Housing; Hon (Barr) Raji Babatunde Fashola (SAN), and the Principal Officers of not only the Ministry of Power but also those of all relevant Departments and Agencies. 

 

He also thanked Gov Okowa, Principal Officers of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the people of the host communities who have been so friendly, generous and accommodating.

 

In his speech, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa expressed delight at the rate of industrial development happening in Delta State under his watch and hoped that he would be on hand to commission the plant in 18 months for its take-off.

Gov Okowa was optimistic that the future would be bright for the energy sector in Nigeria with the increased interests of stakeholders investing in the industry.

He pointed out the need for moderate pricing of the distribution of the energy so that consumers would not suffer adding that the endowment of Delta State with so many natural resources is an encouragement for foreign Investors and hence, appealed to the host communities to give the enabling environment for the plant to thrive.

“We are glad that Delta State will be the hub of power generation and this is because, Delta State is a peaceful state.

 

I therefore urge the company to provide the Corporate Social Responsibility that would enable the communities see them as true partners. But I also call on the communities not to be over demanding. I advise the company to consider engagement of the youths of the host communities when construction work begins” Okowa said.
