Zamfara State Government Pays Gratuities to 494 Retired Local Government Employees

The Zamfara State Government has made significant progress in fulfilling its promise to pay the backlog of gratuities owed to its retired local government employees.

According to a recent announcement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Malam Garba Ahmad Gusau, 494 retirees have already received their gratuities after a thorough verification process.

This news comes as a relief to many who have been waiting for their payments for years.

The state government has planned to pay the gratuities of over 5,000 local government retirees, with the first batch of 494 already receiving their payments after due verification by the Ministry.

The first batch of retirees who received their payments were those who retired between 2011 and 2013.

The second batch of retirees, numbering over 405, retired between 2015 and 2016, while the third batch of 500 retirees will be paid when the governor releases the funds.

The committee responsible for the payments has 30 days to complete the exercise despite some challenges, such as processing payments for deceased beneficiaries and missing documents of some retirees.

To address the issue of missing documents, the committee has suggested that affected retirees obtain clearing letters from the courts.

The recent progress made by the Zamfara State Government in paying the gratuities of its retired local government employees is a positive step towards fulfilling its obligations to its retirees.

It is hoped that the government will continue to prioritize the welfare of its retirees and ensure that they receive their dues in a timely and efficient manner.
