Fire Guts Anambra Market, Millions of Naira Worth of Goods Destroyed

The Nkwo market in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, was engulfed by a fierce fire on Wednesday.

The inferno, which began around 1:20am as a result of a suspected power surge, wreaked havoc on goods worth millions of naira.

The incident left the community in shock and despair as they witnessed the destruction of their livelihoods.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire consumed household items and plastic materials, causing significant financial losses for the affected traders.

State Fire Chief, Dr. Martin Agbili, confirmed the incident and stated that there were no casualties reported.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Anambra State Fire Service swiftly deployed a fire truck and brave firefighters to the scene.

With the assistance of some traders and members of the public, the fire was eventually brought under control and extinguished.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it is suspected to have been a power surge. Approximately four shops were affected by the blaze, including provision shops, a plastic shop, and an attachments shop.

Dr. Martin Agbili reminded the public to be vigilant and take precautions to avoid such incidents in the future.

He advised that people should always remember to switch off their electrical and electronics appliances when not in use to prevent power surges and potential fires.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need to be prepared for unforeseen events.

It is crucial for everyone to take the necessary measures to protect their homes, businesses, and communities from the devastating consequences of fire.
