He also harped on the need for an energy system that is democratic and can readily be managed by communities and neighborhoods.
The Environmentalist said that our well-being is directly tied to the health of our ecosystems.
” Indeed, species are highly interdependent, and restoring ecosystems directly affects our wellbeing. There is a lot to do in this context beyond the ritual of speech making. All aspects of our environment require restoration. We need to restore our forests, restore our aquatic ecosystems, and others. We need to do this for our physical and mental health “.
On the clean-up of the Ogoni Community, Mr. Bassey said that ” the Ogoni cleanup is a process that requires the support of everyone. It is tackling a problem of gargantuan proportions. Do not forget that Ogoni is just a subsection of the larger Niger Delta. If the cleanup fails it will be the ultimate let down and would leave the Ogoni people and the entire region stranded in a deadly environment”.
