Warri urges Olomoro leaders to respect law, resolve leadership crisis

Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, Comrade Friday Ovoke Warri, has called on the leadership of the Olomoro community to abide by the law and resolve their disputes peacefully.

Warri made this appeal on Monday during a peace meeting held at Otobo Hall, Oleh, the council headquarters. The meeting brought together the Olomoro community’s monarch, key stakeholders, youth and women leaders, and security agencies to address the ongoing leadership crisis.

The council chairman intervened following the controversial removal of Lucky Ejor, the community's President-General, by the Odio-ologbo, a move reportedly made without following the procedures outlined in the community’s constitution.

“As of today, Lucky Ejor remains the President-General of Olomoro community,” Warri stated. “Beyond the community’s constitution, the Delta State regulatory law on community affairs does not recognize a caretaker committee in matters of community leadership. It is crucial that all parties respect due process.”

During the meeting, the Ovie of Emede Kingdom, Johnson Ewhiri II, pledged support for the government’s position, urging the Odio-ologbo of Olomoro to work with the government to avoid further conflict. “Government is making every effort to prevent community crises,” he emphasized.

Leaders from the Olomoro community, including youth, women, and traditional heads, echoed their support for the proper procedures outlined in their constitution. They affirmed that, regardless of circumstances, any leadership changes must strictly adhere to the established processes.

“We are committed to due process as stated in the community constitution if the need for leadership change arises,” the Oletu, Idios, and women leaders declared.

The peace meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Isoko South Local Government, the Divisional Police Officer of Oleh, a State Security Service representative, the Ovie of Aviara Kingdom, the Ovie of Emede Kingdom, and representatives of the Isoko Development Union (IDU), among others.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of the Isoko South leadership to fostering peace and stability in the Olomoro community.
