Troops from Operation Safe Haven have rescued two kidnapping victims in Plateau State. The operation happened in Jos North Local Government Area on Monday night.
Victor Ibikuzhu and Tongriang Dayok Salihu were abducted from Kwang village. Security forces recovered them during a pursuit operation that followed.
Personnel from Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12 responded to a distress call immediately. They were joined by officers from the Keystone security outfit.
The military teams tracked the suspects along routes commonly used by kidnappers. Gunfire erupted when soldiers caught up with the fleeing abductors.
According to security sources, the suspects came under heavy fire from troops. They then abandoned both victims and fled into the surrounding bush.
Zagazola Makama, a security expert tracking insurgency in the Lake Chad region, disclosed the details on X. He noted that superior firepower from the military forced the kidnappers to scatter.
Both men escaped unharmed and were reunited with their families shortly after. Officers say the victims provided valuable information about their captors.
Authorities have launched ongoing efforts to locate and arrest the fleeing suspects. Security personnel remain active in the area conducting follow-up operations.
