ValueJet has kicked off Boeing's Advanced Technical Training Programme for its aircraft maintenance engineers in Lagos. The initiative underscores the airline's dedication to safety and workforce development.
Training commenced on June 16 and runs through July 29. Boeing is running the intensive course for Nigerian aviation professionals.
ValueJet engineers will study Boeing 737NG avionics, airframe systems, and powerplant operations. They'll also cover electrical systems, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
Troubleshooting techniques and human factors training are part of the curriculum. Aircraft characteristics and operational best practices round out the program.
Participants will earn European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)-aligned theoretical certificates upon completion. These credentials boost their professional standing and technical expertise.
Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, ValueJet's Managing Director and Accountable Officer, addressed the opening ceremony. He called the programme a crucial investment in Nigerian aviation's future.
"Safety is the foundation of our operations at ValueJet," Majekodunmi said. "We started with the CRJ fleet and are now expanding into Boeing aircraft."
According to him, investing in technical personnel remains essential as the fleet grows. "Our engineers need the skills and knowledge to maintain our highest safety and operational standards," he noted.
Majekodunmi added that the training strengthens engineer capabilities significantly. It reinforces ValueJet's commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Boeing designed this programme to bolster technical capacity across Nigeria's aviation sector. It supports long-term sustainability through world-class engineering expertise.
ValueJet operates routes connecting major Nigerian cities and West African destinations. Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Owerri, and Calabar are key hubs.
Kano, Jos, Benin City, and Iperu receive regular service from the airline. International routes link passengers to Accra, Banjul, Cotonou, and Malabo.
