University of Ibadan Students Protest 750% School Fees Hike

Students at the University of Ibadan (UI) have strongly opposed a proposed 750% school fees hike for new students admitted into the institution.

The Student’s Union of the University issued a statement condemning the increment and requested a meeting with the management to address the issue.

The proposed fee adjustment, which ranges from N133,500 to N372,500, represents a significant increase from the previous fees of N20,000 – N30,000.

The Student’s Union highlighted the financial challenges faced by students, including increased costs of living, as reasons for their opposition to the hike.

In response to the proposed fees increment, the Student’s Union urged the university management to revert to the status quo, emphasizing the importance of maintaining affordable education for all students.

The Union has requested a meeting with the management to discuss the issue and find a resolution that is acceptable to all parties involved.

In the meantime, the Student’s Union has advised new students to remain patient and refrain from making any payments until the matter has been resolved.

The Union is committed to representing the interests of its members and advocating for a fair and equitable solution to the proposed fees hike.

The University of Ibadan, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious institutions, has a responsibility to ensure that its students can access quality education without being overburdened by excessive fees.

The outcome of the negotiations between the Student’s Union and the university management will be closely watched by the student body and the wider community, as it could set a precedent for other institutions facing similar challenges.
