University of Ibadan denies offering free online courses

The University of Ibadan, Ibadan, in Oyo State, has issued a statement through its registrar, Ganiyu Saliu, to refute an online advertisement that claims to offer free online courses with laptops and certificates from the institution.

The statement, which was released to the press on Thursday, called the advertisement a hoax.

The statement said: “The Management of the University of Ibadan has been alerted to an online advertisement for free certification courses allegedly available online, with which laptops and certificates are given by the University of Ibadan.

“The Management wants to disown this advertisement. All courses that lead to certificates from the University of Ibadan are normally reviewed and approved by the Senate of the University, and free online certification courses were not sanctioned by the UI Senate.

“This information is also not from the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre. The Centre’s partnership with EDUREX Consult for short-term certification in various professional programmes at the Centre’s Bodija Office is definitely not free, and no one is getting a free laptop. The public is warned not to fall for this scam, please.”
