UniCal’s Vice Chancellor Scholarship Awards: 34 High-Flyers Shine with Over 4.0 CGPA

The University of Calabar (UniCal) recently celebrated the academic achievements of 34 outstanding students through its inaugural Vice Chancellor Scholarship Award Scheme.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, presented the awards to these high-flyers, who have maintained a minimum CGPA of 4.00 in their respective departments.

The Vice Chancellor Scholarship Award Scheme was established as a response to Prof. Obi’s investiture speech in 2020, where she outlined her vision to reposition the university in line with global best practices.

The scholarship is a testament to the university’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment and rewarding students for their hard work and academic excellence.

The scholarship covers 50% of the charges payable by the student and is renewable for the duration of their studies, provided the recipient maintains the highest CGPA in their department, which must not fall below 4.00.

This initiative not only motivates students to strive for academic excellence but also reduces the financial burden on them and their parents in the face of the current economic challenges.

One of the recipients, Miss Rebecca Igboka, a Human Anatomy student in the College of Medical Science, expressed her joy and gratitude for the award, stating that it would motivate her to work even harder.

Similarly, Miss Modesta Onah, from the Department of Radiography, promised to continue to strive for excellence despite the pressure to maintain her high CGPA.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) President, Lucky Emonefe, lauded the initiative, calling on other Vice Chancellors to follow suit and provide more educational opportunities for Nigerian students.

The Vice Chancellor Scholarship Award Scheme is a significant step in the right direction for UniCal, as it promotes academic excellence and encourages students to reach their full potential.

As the university continues to invest in infrastructure and create a conducive learning environment, it is expected that more students will excel and benefit from such opportunities.
