The management of University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan on Wednesday announced the safe delivery of triplets from the first in vitro fertilization (IVF) performed at the hospital.

UCH spokesperson, Mr. Toye Akinrinlola disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists, noting that the delivery process started around 1 p.m. and lasted 46 minutes.

“The mother and babies, all females, are in good condition. The babies weighed 1.4 kg, 2.5 kg and 2.4 kg respectively.

“The delighted father, Dr Kehinde Osiki from the Department of History and Strategic Studies at the University of Lagos, was on the ground to witness the safe delivery of the babies.

“Osiki couldn’t hide his joy at the arrival of the babies,” the spokesperson said.

He was quoted as saying that “technology has brought relief to problems often attributed to spirituality.

He informed the public that instead of carrying the burden of superstition, they should instead seek scientific solutions to their problems.

UCH Chief Medical Director (CMD) Ibadan Prof. Abiodun Otegbayo welcomed the safe delivery of the triplets.

He described this as another achievement for UCH.

Otegbayo said the commitment to take UCH to an enviable level came to fruition with the start of IVF in 2020 and the delivery of the first group of babies throughout the process.

He appreciated the team that took part in the delivery. (NOPE)
