Tinubu’s Landmark Decision: Enugu Dental College to Become University of Allied Health Sciences

President Bola Tinubu has recently approved the conversion of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu, into a full-fledged University of Allied Health Sciences.

This decision is a crucial step in the President’s dedicated efforts to build robust human resources for the health and social welfare sector.

The Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy in Enugu will now be known as the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, and will be under the jurisdiction of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

This change will not only elevate the institution’s status but also contribute to the expansion of Nigeria’s educational landscape in the field of allied health sciences.

President Tinubu, who also serves as the African Union (AU) Champion for Human Resources for Health, has set ambitious goals to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.

These include plans to train 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide within 16 months, doubling the number of primary health facilities in local communities across all local government areas, and doubling the number of health personnel graduating from accredited nursing and midwifery institutions over the next three years.

By transforming the Enugu Dental College into a University of Allied Health Sciences, President Tinubu aims to meet the aspirations of Nigerians for accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services across the nation.

This strategic move is expected to significantly contribute to the development of the country’s healthcare workforce, which will ultimately lead to improved healthcare services for the Nigerian population.
