Tinubu’s Bold Move: Embracing Oronsanye Report, Applauded by Obi

The former Anambra Governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last election, Peter Obi, has commended the move by President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to adopt the implementation of the Steve Oronsanye’s report.

Obi expressed his support for the decision, stating that it aligns with his vision as articulated in his 2023 manifesto.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Obi emphasized that he would have also implemented the Oronsanye report as President, as it is one of the best ways to make governance efficient, cost-effective, and productive.

He further explained that being in opposition does not warrant blind and thoughtless criticism, and that whenever the government takes the right decision, it should be supported, and if necessary, suggestions for improvement should be offered.

Obi has always been an advocate of the three critical components of the Oronsanye Report, which are: i) drastically cutting the cost of governance; ii) eliminating the overlapping of responsibilities to ensure that responsibilities are appropriately domiciled; and iii) increasing efficiency and effectiveness, which will increase productivity.

While acknowledging that the implementation of the report is long overdue, Obi stressed that the decision should be informed by these principles.

He also suggested that the government should go further and cut the cost of governance across the board, deploying the saved resources to critical areas such as Education, Health, and poverty alleviation.

However, Obi cautioned that the implementation should not be done hastily, as those who will be directly affected are mostly civil servants.

He emphasized the importance of a deep understanding of the federal bureaucracy and the need for political leaders to make sacrifices for the overall development of the nation.

Obi emphasized that the implementation should be accompanied by a template to avoid future bloating of government and that by doing the right things and implementing the right policies, Nigeria can build the New Nigeria of its dreams.
