Three Killed in Fresh Herders Attack on Three Benue Communities

Three individuals were killed in a recent attack by suspected armed herders in the communities of Ikobi, Ugbobi, and Inyakwu, located in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, as the armed men stormed the communities from neighboring Nasarawa State through Agatu Local Government Area.

The attack left several others injured, with one person in each of the three affected villages losing their lives.

The marauders, who were reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons, caught the locals off guard.

However, the resistance put up by the courageous youths in the communities helped many people escape to safety.

Following the attack, the armed herders retreated to their origin, leaving the affected communities deserted as residents fled in fear.

Eche Akpoko, National Chairman of the Apa Development Association, ADA, confirmed the incident, while the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, stated that she was yet to receive details of the attack.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between herders and local communities in Nigeria, particularly in the Middle Belt region, where clashes over resources and land have led to numerous deaths and displacements in recent years.

It is crucial for the government to address these issues and work towards finding a lasting solution to the conflict to prevent further loss of life and property.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the government and relevant authorities will respond to the attack and take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
