A woman lost her life in a fatal crash on Third Mainland Bridge yesterday. Her 30-year-old daughter survived the collision.

The accident happened at the Ilaje inward section near Iyana Oworo. Two Toyota Sienna vehicles collided head-on, LASTMA confirmed.

One vehicle bore registration number LSR 809 GV. The other was marked LSR 695 HM.

LASTMA officers were patrolling when the distress call came in. They arrived quickly and secured the area with safety cones.

Authorities said reckless driving caused the crash. Excessive speeding, they noted, posed serious dangers to commuters.

Police from Oworonsoki Division responded to the scene as well. They documented the incident and began legal proceedings immediately.

The deceased woman's body was removed by security personnel. Her daughter, who was traveling with her, survived with injuries.

LASTMA officers remained at the location to manage traffic flow. They worked to prevent additional accidents on the busy bridge.

One of the drivers fled the scene after impact. The second driver didn't escape and was caught by LASTMA staff.

Officers handed the apprehended driver to police for questioning. Investigations into the incident have commenced, authorities said.

"One driver absconded from the scene," LASTMA stated. "However, we apprehended the second driver and transferred him to police for thorough investigation and prosecution."

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA's General Manager, condemned reckless driving practices. He warned that over-speeding remains a leading cause of fatal accidents.

Bakare-Oki urged all motorists to exercise caution on roads. He stressed the importance of respecting speed limits and traffic rules.

LASTMA pledged continued efforts to protect commuters. The agency said it'd maintain focus on ensuring smooth traffic across Lagos.
