Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to accountability, transparency and prudent management of public resources as the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) commenced its nationwide Data Verification Exercise in the state.
Speaking on Monday while receiving an RMFAC delegation led by Team Leader, Mohammed Kabir Usman, and the Federal Commissioner representing Delta State, Mr Aruviere Martins Egharhevwa, at Government House, Asaba, the governor declared that his administration's projects and investments across the state were open for physical verification.
Oborevwori said his government had made substantial investments in healthcare, education, roads and other critical infrastructure under its development agenda, stressing that the achievements were visible across the state's 25 local government areas.
"We remain conscious of the need for prudence, accountability and transparency in the management of public resources. We have invested massively in hospitals, schools and other social infrastructure that have improved the state's development indices," he said.
"We are not just making claims; the projects are there for everyone to see. Across the 25 local government areas, we are delivering roads, schools, hospitals and other critical infrastructure. You can verify them."
The governor assured the commission of the state's full cooperation, revealing that local government chairmen and relevant ministries, departments and agencies had already been directed to provide all necessary records and documentation for the exercise.
"I wish to assure the Commission that Delta State is fully prepared to provide all the information and support required for a successful exercise," he stated.
Oborevwori also urged the RMFAC team to go beyond paperwork and physically inspect projects and facilities across the state.
"Don't stay in Asaba and rely only on reports. Go out and verify the hospitals, schools and other facilities. Let them show you the records and projects on the ground. It is important that you see things for yourselves so you can defend your findings anywhere," he said.
The governor added that Delta, as one of the nation's major contributors to federal revenue, deserved a fair and objective assessment based on accurate data and verifiable infrastructure.
Earlier, RMFAC Team Leader, Mohammed Kabir Usman, said the exercise was aimed at validating and updating data used in determining revenue allocation to states and local governments across the federation.
According to him, the review of the revenue allocation formula had reached an advanced stage, making it necessary to verify the accuracy and integrity of data that would ultimately shape future allocations.
"The review of the revenue allocation formula has reached an advanced stage, and it has become necessary to validate the integrity and accuracy of the data that will inform revenue distribution across the federation," Usman said.
He noted that changing population patterns, infrastructure growth and emerging developmental realities made periodic verification essential, adding that RMFAC had digitised its data collection process to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Usman also commended Governor Oborevwori for ongoing infrastructure and urban renewal projects across the state.
"I have seen the urban renewal programme, the flyover projects and the massive specialist hospital under construction. We congratulate you on these achievements. They are evidence of the giant strides your administration is making in governance," he said.
He assured the governor that the exercise would be conducted professionally, transparently and in line with established best practices.
