Teenage Apprentice Takes Life Over Alleged Shop Theft in Ikorodu

Tragic turn of event as teenage apprentice named Ojibe Chibueze has reportedly committed suicide in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, Nigeria.

The incident occurred on March 11, 2024, after he was accused of stealing N100,000 from his master’s shop.

According to the deceased’s sister, Cynthia, the young apprentice was last seen around 8 p.m., when he returned from work.

However, he left the apartment they shared without returning home as expected.

Cynthia’s fears were confirmed when she received a call informing her of the discovery of her brother’s lifeless body at Abijo bus-stop, Ikorodu.

An empty bottle of insecticide, believed to have been ingested by the deceased, was found next to him.

Cynthia revealed that her brother had taken some money and left the house after his master called to inform them that he had stolen N100,000 from his shop.

The teenager did not return home and was later found dead at the bus-stop.

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident and is currently investigating the matter.

The police spokesman, Benjamin Hudenyin, stated that detectives from the Elemoro Police Division visited the scene after Cynthia reported the incident.

Foam was found gushing from the deceased’s mouth and nostrils, and his corpse was subsequently removed and deposited at Epe General Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

An empty can of insecticide was recovered as an exhibit.

This heartbreaking story highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues and the need for support systems for young apprentices in Nigeria.
