Anxiety has gripped Ibbi local government area of Taraba State following the abduction of nine fishermen and the killing of four others in Ogbolu local government area of Anambra State by persons suspected to be members of the outlawed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).

The fishermen, who were traveling from Ibbi town in Taraba State to River Niger for their annual fishing activities, were intercepted during a sit-at-home order declared by the proscribed group.

Relatives of the victims have expressed their concern over the safety of the nine kidnapped fishermen, who were taken hostage five days ago.

Despite receiving calls from individuals claiming to be IPOB members demanding ransom for their release, the relatives have been unable to confirm the well-being of their loved ones.

Taraba state Governor, Agbu Kefas, has assured the public that the state government is aware of the incident and is taking action to ensure the safe rescue of the nine remaining fishermen.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, confirmed the government's commitment to resolving the situation.

The incident has highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by local communities in Nigeria and the need for increased efforts to address the activities of armed groups that threaten the safety and well-being of citizens.

The Taraba State Government's response to the crisis will be closely watched as they work to secure the release of the abducted fishermen and bring those responsible for the killings to justice.
