Supreme Court Reserves Judgment in Delta Governor Election Appeal

The Supreme Court has decided to reserve its judgment in the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, challenging the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Delta State gubernatorial election.

The three-member panel, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, made the decision after hearing arguments from both parties. The panel also included Justices Joseph Olubunmi Oyewole and Hadiza Shagari.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Oborevwori the winner of the election, but Omo-Agege and other candidates, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Chief Kenneth Gbagi, and the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Kennedy Pela, filed petitions to challenge the results.

The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal had both upheld Oborevwori’s victory, but the Supreme Court’s decision to reserve judgment leaves the case open for further deliberation.
