Student Docked Over Alleged N750,000 Accommodation Scam in Ondo

A 25-year-old student has been brought before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over an alleged N750,000 accommodation scam.

The defendant, Blessing Akingbade, has been charged with advance fee fraud and stealing, as reported by the Daily Post Nigeria.

The incident took place on August 5, 2023, at 11:00 am, in Okitipupa, Okitipupa magisterial district.

The defendant allegedly received N750,000 from one Mrs. Odunayo Akinbolade under the pretense of securing an apartment for her daughter, a fellow student, in Okitipupa.

According to the Police prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, the defendant made the misrepresentation knowing it to be false and later converted the money collected to her own use.

The case has sparked outrage among the public, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent such scams in the future.

The defendant has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the case has been adjourned until a later date.

The outcome of this case could have far-reaching implications for students and landlords alike, as it highlights the need for vigilance and caution when dealing with accommodation arrangements.
